2015 – Work in progress
Calar is a verb that means ‘to silence’ in portuguese.
It also means, in the common vocabulary, to apply limestone in the soil to correct the pH of agricultural areas.
This project investigates the influence of the limestone mining activity on the landscape of the central region of Goiás state, more specifically, the rural area of Pirenópolis and neighboring towns.
The region is very rich in limestone deposits and the mining activity erupts in the landscape like a whitish scar, which foreshadows the decay of a biome overwhelmed by the anthropic activity from the last decades.
